According to a report at Fansided, there were rumors that the Sacramento Kings were targeting either Mike Woodson or Vinny Del Negro to be their next head coach as a replacement for George Karl who was fired on April 14.
Both Mike Woodson and Vinny Del Negro had experience in bringing their former teams in the playoffs and semifinals. That might be one of the main reason Divac chose the two veteran coach to fill up Karl’s former position.
In a previous report, Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac seemed not to be contented with team’s performance after having a 33-49 record and failing to enter the playoffs. Before Divac fired Karl, he already removed one of Karl’s assistant.
“After evaluating the team’s performance this season, I determined it was necessary to move forward with a new voice from the head coaching position,” Kings general manager Vlade Divac said in a statement via ESPN. “I have a great deal of respect and admiration for George and his accomplishments throughout his nearly 30 years in the NBA. On behalf of everyone in the Kings organization, I thank him for the contributions made during his time in Sacramento and wish him good fortune in the future.”
In an earlier report, DeMarcus Cousins was also rumored in the trading block after having five coaches since he joined the Sacramento Kings. From Paul Westphal, Keith Smart, Michael Malone, Tyron Corbin and recently George Karl, all coaches failed to quench the playoff thirst of the Kings.
But, after rumors about trading Cousins had spread, it seemed like Divac had already distinguished the problem with his team. Despite having explosive performance, Kings star center DeMarcus Cousins were reportedly having issues with the past coaches.
Cousins’ attitude toward his teammates and coaches might be the reason he was on the trading block. It seemed like the reason behind the team’s performance was because their lacking of chemistry, especially with the player whom they had, expect to carry the team.
If they will get a more dominant and a team player in exchange for Cousins and they will hire either Mike Woodson or Vinny Del Negro, who had enough experienced in coaching an NBA team, the Sacramento Kings will surely be a threat in the next season.
