Dwyane Wade entertains offers as talks with Heat dwindle
Looks like Dwyane Wade might play for another team next season as rumors are swirling that talks with the Miami Heat are dwindling and that the Wade is entertaining offers when free agency opens on July 1.

According to star forward Carmelo Anthony, the New York Knicks could have gotten Dwyane Wade in 2016 free agency if the timing was right. However, Wade went to the Chicago Bulls after NBA rumors of the veteran guard’s rift with the Miami Heat management.

Anthony mentioned in an interview with Frank Isola of the New York Daily News that the timing of Wade’s signing with Chicago was just a few days ahead. If Wade would have waited and if the Knicks did not sign other free agents, then New York would have acquired Wade.

“There was a chance. There was definitely a chance. We would have had to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the 25th hour. But there was a chance. I think if it was maybe two days earlier we probably would have had D-Wade,” Anthony admitted in the article about the possibility of Wade joining New York.

While Wade went to Chicago in this free agency, the Knicks spent their budget on Courtney Lee and Brandon Jennings.

Wade, who has been with the Heat the previous 13 seasons, signed a two-year deal worth $47.5 million with the Bulls. Lee signed for four years $48 million while Jennings had a one-year deal worth $5 million. On the yearly average, the combined salaries of Lee and Jennings is less than that of Wade’s.

Wade and Carmelo are good friends along with other NBA buddies LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Chris Paul (Los Angeles Clippers).

Even without Wade, the Knicks look like they can be one of the playoff contenders in the Eastern Conference. The starters are expected to be Derrick Rose, Lee, Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis and Joakim Noah, who was acquired in 2016 free agency.

It would have been interesting to see Wade and Melo team up in New York. Previous NBA rumors had the “super friends” wanting to join forces in their NBA careers. When all hit free agency in the future, it’s likely that they consider playing with each other in the future.
