The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in trading for Philadelphia 76ers big man Jahlil Okafor. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Knicks will be sending Justin Holiday and a first-round pick to acquire Okafor from the Sixers.
The arrival of Dario Saric, Joel Embiid, and Ben Simmons created a logjam at the Sixers’ frontcourt. There were reports saying that the Sixers will be trading either Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel. Since Noel is set to become a free agent next summer, Okafor is more marketable.
Several NBA teams have already shown their interest to trade for Jahlil Okafor, including the New York Knicks. The Knicks succeeded to acquire Joakim Noah in the recent free agency after losing center Brook Lopez when they grabbed Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls.
A defensive specialist like Noah will undeniably bolster the Knicks’ frontcourt. However, the problem with him is if he will stay healthy throughout the season. Joakim Noah’s performance has tremendously gone when he suffered multiple injuries in the past.
With this, acquiring another center who can start in place of Noah could be a good move for the Knicks. According to All About Knicks, the Knicks could offer Justin Holiday and a first-round pick to acquire Jahlil Okafor from the Philadelphia 76ers.
“Trading a “big” for a “small” isn’t always advisable in the NBA, but it may make sense considering the Sixers’ glut of big men and need for guards. Philly’s hand may be forced and they will have to make a difficult decision sooner rather later, especially if Embiid stays healthy through camp and the early part of the season.” Basketball Insider reported.
Having a guard and a first-round pick in return for Okafor will be beneficial for the Sixers. Jahlil Okafor will undeniably be a good fit for the New York Knicks. If this trade proceeds, it will help both teams in filling up the areas needed to improve on their roster.
