The NBA training camp is just a week away but many trade rumors are still surrounding teams such as the New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder. One of the latest NBA rumors implies that the Knicks will trade Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick Rose to the Thunder in exchange for Russell Westbrook.
According to nba-trade-rumors.com (h/t The Inquisitr), the Knicks and Thunder are discussing a trade that would send Westbrook to the Knicks. However, it seems like an absurd claim since the superstar point guard just signed a new three-year deal to stay in Oklahoma City.
Also, New York trading Kristaps Porzingis even for a player like Westbrook would cause Knicks fans to revolt. The 21-year-old Latvian unicorn has superstar potential and he took over New York in his rookie season.
It should also be noted that even if the Thunder decides to trade Westbrook, they cannot do it until December 15 due to him signing a new deal. But for those who are wondering if the trade is plausible, ESPN Trade Machine has the salaries matched.
As for Westbrook getting traded, it is not entirely out of the question at the deadline especially if Oklahoma City struggles without Kevin Durant. Westbrook failed to lead the Thunder to the postseason when KD went down with an injury in the 2014-15 season despite posting near triple-double stats.
On the other hand, if ever the Knicks decide to at least consider this trade, one of the possible reasons is the question marks with Porzingis and Rose. Porzingis has the potential but will he get there while Rose’s injury history speaks for itself.
D-Rose being traded is also different story due to his rape case which might affect him and the team. Nevertheless, these are just purely speculative at the moment and nothing has been confirmed but it’s not the first time a Kristaps Porzingis for Russell Westbrook trade rumor has surfaced this offseason.
