Brandon Ingram is a rookie in the NBA next season. He was drafted by the Lakers as their second overall pick in the first round of 2016 NBA draft. This NBA rumors suggests that Ingram could come off the bench to play the shooting guard position for the Lakers.
According to Hannah Kulik of the Lakersnation.com, the starting lineup of the Lakers looks set for the upcoming season. This lineup consists of Timofey Mozgov, Julius Randle, Luol Deng, Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell barring any major injuries. It is not a surprise that Ingram will not start since he is just a rookie. But he might play two positions for the team based on this NBA rumors report.
It is expected that Ingram would play his natural small forward spot whether he starts or not. However, this NBA rumors report states that he could also play the shooting guard role for the team. This is a notable area for the Lakers since they lack depth in the position.
The only player in the team that plays the sg role quite effectively was Jordan Clarkson. He has proven this last season when Kobe Bryant played the sf spot, while he moved to the shooting guard position. He played his original point guard position during his rookie year in the league. Clarkson was the second-best scorer on the team last season with his average of 15.5 points behind Bryant’s 17.6 points per game.

Moreover, the other player for the team that also played the shooting guard position last season is Lou Williams. But whenever Lou is on the court, he is an inconsistent offensive player that is not known for his defense.
Therefore, Ingram playing more minutes than Williams to play as the backup of Clarkson and Deng seems like a logical choice for the Lakers. This could be a good move for the team next season. For not only they develop their top rookie, their competitiveness on the court is not lost as well.
