The Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs are looking to add a major free agent this 2016 offseason, according to multiple NBA rumors. One of the speculations is that both teams will try to steal Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma Thunder but could the West teams be better off signing Al Horford from the Atlanta Hawks?
Durant is expected to demand a max contract and the Lakers has the ability to offer that because of the expiring contracts of the retired Kobe Bryant and center Roy Hibbert. Meanwhile, the Spurs have some job to do to clear some cap space but they have the winning culture to convince Durant in signing in Texas.
Durant said recently that he is not thinking about free agency yet after the Golden State Warriors defeated the Thunder after the latter got the 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference Finals. NBA rumors are expected to place Durant in the headlines as he tries to weigh his options of getting his first NBA title in his career.
2016 NBA free agency begins July 1 and Durant is expected to explore his options, which includes attempts by the Lakers, Spurs and other teams like the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, which has the salary cap space to sign Durant.
While Durant is the top prize in free agency, other free agents like Al Horford could be acquired easier compared to the OKC superstar.
Like Durant, Horford is an unrestricted free agent and any NBA team can sign him outright and the Hawks will lose him in free agency. This is the Lakers and Spurs chance to add a big man that can bring them to the next level.
NBA rumors will continue to surround Kevin Durant and Al Horford in free agency. The Lakers and Spurs can try to get the more popular name in the OKC superstar or they can try to acquire an undervalued center that will help them improve next season.
