The Los Angeles Lakers got lucky in the draft lottery as they kept their 2016 first round pick that turned out to be the second overall selection. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Lakers are apparently undecided on who will they pick second overall in the draft.
As mentioned in a previous report, Lakers general manager hinted on the possibility of trading their top pick but he also pointed out that they can also choose the best player possible. The 2016 NBA draft is a two-rookie race and the Philadelphia Sixers are inclined to select Ben Simmons with the first overall pick.

It is expected that the Lakers will take Brandon Ingram but Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders reported on Monday that the LA front office is telling agents they have not “locked on” any prospect. The Lakers have already done something like that last year when they passed on Jahlil Okafor and drafted D’Angelo Russell.

Kyler also noted that the Lakers will draft based on their need and how the player will fit on their young roster. Ingram seems to be a great fit in Los Angeles as he can play on the wings and he has the length to be a defensive stalwart.
The Duke product also has a scorer’s mentality and his game has been compared to Oklahoma City Thunder superstar, Kevin Durant. According to Lakers Nation, it would be a bad move to reach for a player like Jaylen Brown, Skal Labissiere, Buddy Hield or Kris Dunn.
The Lakers can always trade down in order to get a player plus a draft pick with high potential but it will be a bad move not to select Ingram. The 18-year-old forward worked out for LA last week and he posted a photo of himself in a Lakers jersey on his Facebook account.

Nonetheless, these are all just speculations but if Simmons goes to Philly, Ingram will be the second pick. Almost all mock drafts have these two players as the first and second overall selection, respectively. The 2016 NBA Draft will be on June 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
