LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers may have felt the spotlight shifted away too early after they won the 2016 NBA Finals, as their rival the Golden State Warriors decided to transition into a super team for the 2017 season. NBA rumors abound that the Cavs want Demarcus Cousins to play center & forward positions.
Apart from being arguably the best player in the league, LeBron James is known for his de facto role as team GM. He likes to make his way into building players around him, choosing players he feels will do well, or mesh with his game.
On the same token, James is rumored to be calling the shots in trading Kevin Love for Demarcus Cousins.
This isn’t entirely new to fans, as the potential trade has been broached forward for months until it eventually died out.
Now, according to a report by KingJamesGospel, NBA rumors are circulating that Demarcus Cousins effective performance in the 2016 Rio Olympics has impressed the Cavaliers management and that they are willing to re-enter into negotiations to move Cousins in for Kevin Love.
Kevin Love is no doubt the odd man out in Cleveland and has been so for some time. He has the skill, but he’s vying for more minutes in a position that’s unquestionably LeBron James’. Plus, his poor performance during the NBA finals last season didn’t help his cause either.
NBA rumors point to LeBron James and the team management wanting Demarcus Cousins to play with the Cavaliers, and it’s for a good reason, according to the Morning News USA.
Cousins would fit in the team playing center or forward position, and his defensive abilities will surely be beneficial to the current champions. Aside from that, his ability to shoot outside will also help stretch the defense, and it seems his performance in the Olympics has reminded the Cavaliers of what they’ve been looking for.
The Cavaliers are trying to counter the Warriors’ super team, and adding Demarcus Cousins is viewed to give them a lift both on the defensive and offensive end.
