LeBron James did not suit up for team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics. But he recently expressed his desire to play in the Olympics again. This time, he intends to play under its new coach in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics based on this NBA rumors report.

LeBron’s reason for playing in the next Olympic Games is because of Gregg Popovich. The Spurs’ NBA coach is set to replace a former USA mentor, Mike Krzyzewski after the country won the gold in Rio.

According to USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt, James praised Popovich’s coaching style that convinced him to play under the coach’s tutelage.

“It would be pretty amazing to be able to actually play for the greatest NBA coach of all time,” LeBron told Zigllitt.

James added in the interview that it would be a treat to be coached by Gregg Popovich.

“I believe he’s one of the great basketball minds that we’ve ever had in this game, and I wish I could be around him every day to kind of just pick his brain and see what he does, what he thinks,” LeBron said.

James had an early interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols about leaving the door open for the Tokyo Olympics. However, the NBA champion clarified that he should be in tremendous shape first before he could compete in 2020.
