Luke Walton is already one of the top two NBA coaches, believes Kobe Bryant. The Los Angeles Lakers have hired the former Warriors’ assistant coach Walton as their new head coach last month.
Walton was hailed as a promising coach by several quarters during his earlier stints. He led Golden State to a 39-4 win record this regular season in the absence of head coach Steve Kerr.
The young core of the Lakers was excited to learn that the franchise has signed Walton as their new boss. Sources show that Jordan Clarkson ran circles around his house twice after hearing the news of the former Warrior’s appointment.
D’Angelo Russell revealed that Kobe Bryant had raised the expectations from Walton by pointing out his great basketball vision.
“I’m beyond happy,” Russell said in a recent interview with Broderick Turner of the LA Times. “I’ve heard so much about him. Kobe Bryant even said Luke is one of the top two coaches in this league in this day and age. I’m just looking forward to being coached and pushed.”
Bryant is known for praising the most deserving candidate. The legendary Laker thinks Walton is another Phil Jackson in the making and is a firm believer of his success at Los Angeles.
“I used to call him the next Phil,” Bryant said about his experience of watching Walton lead the Warriors in the regular season. Jackson is one of the best coaches the league has ever seen.
And Mitch Kupchak has also shown high regards for their newly appointed head coach. So, Walton will have to handle the immense pressure of astronomical expectations as takes charge of the Lakers side as a head coach.
