The Dallas Mavericks are one of the teams looking to be active in the 2016 offseason and have been involved in NBA rumors with a salary cap enough to net a free agent star this summer. Talks out of Dallas is that the team will chase forward Luol Deng from the Miami Heat if Chandler Parsons decides to leave this summer.
Dallas has also been mentioned in talks of signing the likes of Hassan Whiteside or Kevin Durant, both of whom will demand a maximum contract but their salary cap might force them to settle for a cheaper talent like the veteran forward in Deng.
Parsons, who struggled with injuries in the 2015-2016 NBA Season, has a player option worth about $16 million in his contract with the Mavericks but he can opt out this summer and look for a long-term deal in Dallas or with another NBA team. NBA rumors state that the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in Parsons.
Deng is not the only option for Dallas, according to dallasnews.com, with the Atlanta Hawks’ Kent Bazemore, Boston Celtics’ Evan Turner and Charlotte Hornets’ Nicolas Batum all considered as free agent options for their starting small forward spot in case Parsons leave.
Meanwhile, Deng has stated in interviews that he likes his role in Miami and willing to re-sign with the Heat. However, Miami is in a bidding war against other NBA teams for the services of free agent center Whiteside, who is reportedly the top priority in free agency by Heat president Pat Riley.
This can put the Heat in a difficult situation with Deng, who might be convinced to sign by their rivals, which includes the Mavericks.
NBA rumors will both include Deng and Parsons this offseason as they are two of the top forwards in free agency and will be chased by multiple NBA teams.
