Days before the 2017 NBA draft, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Boston Celtics agreed to swap the No. 1 and No. 3 picks. The Sixers are expected to draft the former Washington Huskies star Markelle Fultz as the first overall pick to boost their backcourt. Will the Celtics regret the trade?

As a result of tanking, the Sixers obtained talented players who can help them revive the team’s legacy. The combination of Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, and Ben Simmons is undeniably one of the promising frontcourts in the league. However, the Sixers obviously need to improve their backcourt to become a legitimate contender.

NBA Draft News: Markelle Fultz to Philadelphia 76ers

The upcoming draft will feature talented guards, Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball, who could be a great addition to the City of Brotherly Love. However, both guards are expected to land at No. 1 and 2. With their desire to draft Fultz, the Sixers traded the No. 3 pick and a future first-round pick to the Celtics for the No. 1 pick.

Since Fultz worked out in Philadelphia, the Sixers and the Celtics are already in serious talks about swapping their picks. The deal will be finalized on Monday, according to ESPN. Fultz, who expressed his strong desire to play for the Celtics and team up with Isaiah Thomas, said that he doesn’t pay much attention to the trade talks centered on him.

“I let God take care of it,” Fultz said. “I wake up every morning and get ready to go to the gym. I don’t really pay attention to everything that’s going on. I’m truly blessed to be in this position. Whatever happens, I’m looking forward to taking my talents to wherever I go.”

Meanwhile, on his Twitter account, Joel Embiid posted a photo of him, Ben Simmons, Robert Covington and Markelle Fultz and said: “This could be legendary if it happens.” Fultz looks very welcome in Philadelphia and there is no doubt that he can mesh well with Embiid and Simmons.

Sixers will become a huge problem in the East

With the nearing acquisition of Fultz, it will not be a surprise if the Sixers contend in the playoffs next season. The trio of Embiid, Simmons, and Fultz is undeniably a real threat for any teams in the Eastern Conference. If they build a chemistry and stay healthy, the Sixers may end up as the Celtics’ huge problem in returning to the NBA Finals.
