The Indiana Pacers have improved their roster this offseason but they might not be done making changes. According to the latest NBA rumors, Monta Ellis might get demoted to the bench which can lead to a possible trade to the Sacramento Kings.
The Pacers surrounded superstar player Paul George with talented players such as Jeff Teague, Thaddeus Young, and Al Jefferson. They still have future star Myles Turner, as well as Ellis who has been part of many NBA rumors about a possible trade to the Kings in exchange for Rudy Gay.
According to Greg Rappaport of NBA.com, Indiana will have an intriguing training camp since Monta Ellis will be competing against C.J. Miles for the starting shooting guard position. He noted that Ellis’ role is going to change since he has the same skill set as Teague.
However, Teague is a better passer and playmaker than Ellis and he would need a shooter on the wings as he penetrates the floor. That player is Miles, who even though struggled with consistency, finished last season as a 37 percent shooter from deep.
The former Warriors and Bucks guard is still a capable scorer but he would be better suited as a sixth man. But if he gets demoted, there is a chance that he won’t like the role and would cause chemistry problems for the Pacers.
One of the possible destinations for Ellis is the Kings that are willing to part ways with Rudy Gay. The 30-year-old would help the Sacramento right away since there are questions about the effectiveness of Ty Lawson and Darren Collison.
According to Evan Massey of Forbes, the Kings and Pacers have discussed an Ellis-Gay swap in the offseason but nothing has come to fruition. Nevertheless, these are just NBA rumors at the moment but expect some moves at the trade deadline especially if Ellis gets demoted to the bench.
