Is LeBron James considering a move in free agency after clinching the title with the Cleveland Cavaliers? Phil Jackson may make a move to bring the four-time MVP in New York this summer.
James can opt our of his current deal to hit the free agency on July 1. And Phil Jackson will make a move to acquire him if he becomes a free agent. Landing in New York would also provide James to play alongside Carmelo Anthony.
A confident James will be willing to accept any new challenge coming his way at this stage.
“When I came back, I knew I had the right ingredients and the right blueprint to help this franchise get back to a place that we’ve never been,’’ James said after leading the Cavs to end their 52-year title drought on Sunday, with a victory cigar in his mouth.
Surely, the three-time champion looks forward to his seventh successive finals. Phil Jackson and company would love to provide him with that platform. The Knicks are eyeing to bounce back this season under new head coach Jeff Hornacek, and want to upgrade the roster in order to become a championship contender.
But why would James sign for another team? As the New York Post points out, the Cavs’ star can make more money by hitting the free agency and then signing a new two-year deal with an opt-out. He can grab $6 million more next season if he signs a new deal in free agency.
Phil Jackson has every reason to gear up and pursue LBJ.
