The Philadelphia 76ers have been the laughing stock of the NBA for the past three years as they only won a combined 47 games in that period. However, the latest NBA rumors suggest that the Philadelphia is an “exciting” destination for free agents this offseason.
The misery for the Sixers started in 2013 when general manager Sam Hinkie started “The Process” wherein they lost 19, 18 and ten games during his tenure. It allowed the team to draft players such as Nerlens Noel, Michael Carter-Williams, Joel Embiid, Dario Saric and Jahlil Okafor.
However, Hinkie was forced to resign from his position as the Sixers hired Jerry Colangelo to become the team’s chairman of basketball operations. His son, Bryan, replaced Hinkie as GM and he immediately went to work by selecting Ben Simmons first overall in the 2016 NBA Draft.
According to Sean Devaney of Sporting News, the image of the Sixers around the NBA is slowly becoming positive after they drafted Simmons. The team will be aggressive in free agency as they have the money to do it, they have a good coach in Brett Brown and they have a great future.
“I’ve got guys who tell me they want to going there. I mean, excited to go there. It’s a different approach,” one sports agent told Sporting News.
Things are certainly going up for Philadelphia and their fans. Simmons has the potential to become a superstar, Dario Saric is finally coming to the NBA next season after getting drafted two years ago and the front office wants a winning culture.
Of course, the Sixers will not have a chance on signing superstars such as Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James. Instead, they can lure free agents such as Harrison Barnes, Allen Crabbe, Dion Waiters, Jeremy Lin, Bradley Beal and Evan Fournier, per BBall Breakdown.
