Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Philadelphia 76ers who are reportedly interested in acquiring Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram in the 2016 NBA draft. Recent rumors are saying that the Sixers are trading Jahlil Okafor in order to get the top two draft prospects for their team.
The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the teams with promising young cores but are struggling in the league. Their 10-72 record in the 2015-16 NBA season proved that they should make a huge adjustment in order to be a more competitive team in the NBA. With all the NBA teams preparing for the next season, the Philadelphia 76ers are expected to undergo a rebuilding process and this includes a change in their roster.
According to a previous report, the Sixers will be exploring to trade their young center Jahlil Okafor. It is undeniable that Okafor is one of the promising players and has the potential to become a superstar. Knowing his outstanding performance in his first year in the league, there will surely be lots of NBA teams that are willing to give a seductive offer in order to get him for their team.
According to Chad Ford of ESPN, the Philadelphia 76ers are making their moves to improve their team’s performance next season. They are thinking of the possibility of trading either Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor since they were having a hard time finding their chemistry resulting for a poor team performance.
“I think that there’s a very high likelihood, that whether it’s to move up in the draft or use them to grab a free agent in a sign and trade or just to a trade, that you will not see the Nerlens Noel-Jahlil Okafor pairing at the start of next season,” said Ford. “I think that they’ll gauge the interest of both players. I think that there might be a slight preference for Noel, to keep him around with the Sixers, and I think you might be right, there might be a slight, better value for Okafor out on the market, but I think everyone agrees that that combination of those two players doesn’t necessarily work.”
Since Jahlil Okafor has the higher market potential, the Sixers might consider him the better trade option than Noel. There are speculations that the Sixers are eyeing to get Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram in the 2016 NBA draft. If the mock drafts will be the basis, the Sixers should make a deal to either the Los Angeles Lakers or the Boston Celtics. If the Lakers get Dragon Bender over Brandon Ingram, the Sixers have the higher chance to grab Ingram since the Celtics are reportedly willing to deal the third overall pick for Okafor.
According to John Gonzales of the CSNPhilly.com:
“There were rumors that the Celtics wanted him at the trade deadline. Even without additional parts, the third pick might be enough for the Sixers to do a deal.”
However, if the Lakers pick Brandon Ingram, there is a lesser opportunity to grab the top two draft prospects for their team since the Lakers are also eyeing for them. Still, things are expected to change as the 2016 NBA draft draws near.
