NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns to make a play for Jahlil Okafor?

By on

Jahlil Okafor is one of the top names in the NBA rumor mill these days. The 20-year-old ex-Duke player has become the subject of endless NBA rumors and speculations in the past weeks.

Reports are swirling around the web that there will be a decent chance that the Philadelphia 76ers will consider making some deal for him this offseason. Right now, there are several teams that could use a skilled big man like Okafor, but it won’t be an easy trade for them, the 76ers will definitely ask for a big price for this kind of trade.

Teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Boston Celtics are rumored to be interested in the big man.

The Lakers have been reported earlier to show interest in acquiring the player from Duke. Then, there’s the Chicago Bulls, who are also on the hunt for a new starting lineup. The Bulls are making some big overhaul, seeking outside talents to beef up their team. Okafor could be a nice fit for the team, but it’s unclear who or what they have to give up to convince the Sixers to a deal.

But there is one other team in the NBA that could make steal OkaforAccording to Charles Rahrig V of, Phoenix Suns could make a play for Okafor this offseason. Rahrig V believes that there is a big possibility that the Suns could make the play Okafor to add more to this offseason’s NBA rumors.

Rahrig V suggested that the Phoenix could make some clever moves and might package that includes Brandon Knight along with some draft picks to secure the acquisition of Okafor.

Other players would likely also to get involved in this kind of deal, but Phoenix has the assets to sustain this kind of moves. Trading would not big a big problem for them. Adding a big man like Okafor would give the Suns a big three, which would include Eric Bledsoe, Devin Booker, and Jahlil Okafor.

The 20-year-old Okafor has been named to the All-Rookie first team and placed fifth in the NBA Rookie of the Year. At Duke University, he earned the 2015 NCAA Men’s basketball All-American first team selection, ACC Player of the Year, and the USBWA National Freshman of the Year. At 76ers, Okafor has made an impressive play, taking an average of 17.5 points, 7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.

There are many teams in the NBA that willing to trade a guy who has put up those kinds of numbers as a rookie. The Philadelphia could deal their other talented assets like the forward Nerlens Noel instead of Okafor, but this would not draw near the kind of return that the young Okafor could put on the table.

If the Phoenix Suns are able to sign the big man, this would fix an issue that the team had for years. The Suns have never had a legitimate big man in a long time, so this could be a good help for them.

However, this wouldn’t be an easy task for Suns because they are going to face many challenges ahead. They are going to have a tough fight outbidding teams like the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers are one big team that is hungry and want a bite of a big trade. Expect some tough resistance from Lakers, and Phoenix will need to be prepared for the upcoming bidding war. They also need to be aggressive in their talks with the Philadelphia and need to make some quick follow up to get the job done. The idea is to secure “a first base” for Okafor.

Phoenix is hoping for a strong comeback this coming season and they need a very good lineup to do that. They made some quick overhaul, with Earl Watson taking over the head coach position in the middle of the season. If the Suns succeed in bringing Okafor on board, there is a great chance that the Suns could make some good play next season.

Overall, expect to hear a lot of rumors and speculations surrounding the Suns this coming offseason, and don’t be surprised if most of these NBA rumors are linked to trading for Okafor.
