The Chicago Bulls signed star point guard Rajon Rondo to a two-year $30 million deal this summer. But there are NBA rumors that Bulls current franchise player Jimmy Butler is not happy with Chicago’s decision.

Zach Harper of CBS Sports noted that the Rondo signing might not be good for the Bulls long-term and that Butler could be unhappy with the acquisition of the controversial point guard.

“But you’re still adding potential lighter fluid to what’s quickly becoming a dumpster fire. Rondo is a familiar name and he’ll get assists. Management will sell it as helping the team in the short-term while maintaining flexibility,” Harper wrote.

He added, “That can work with fans buying tickets, but will that work for Butler when the entire defense is focusing in on him and daring his inferior teammates to beat them? Will Butler feel like he’s wasted two seasons since his new contract began and start looking for a way out?”

Jimmy Butler has been involved in some NBA rumors this summer. Reports stated that the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves were trying to get him during draft day.

The Bulls traded away long-time PG Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks and got a starting center in Robin Lopez. Chicago will also lose other Bulls this free agency in Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah, who signed with the Knicks.

Rondo had a rocky year with the Dallas Mavericks before playing like an All-Star again with the Sacramento Kings last year. Rondo averaged 11.9 points and 11.7 assists last season for the Kings and was the league’s assists leader.

Could the NBA rumors of a possible rift between Butler and Rondo happen during the season? Or are these unfounded and the pair actually leads Chicago to a playoff spot in the new year?
