The Derrick Rose alleged gang rape has taken the NBA headlines recently and the New York Knicks are not too happy that they have a major distraction weeks to go before the 2016-2017 NBA Season starts. Trade rumors now involve the Knicks starting point guard and one target could be the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook.

Rose took the stand on Friday and told the court his version of the story. Earlier in the week, “Jane Doe”, the alleged gang rape victim, told the jury and the court that he was drugged and then was raped by Rose and two of his friends.

Rose has insisted that the sex involved that night was consensual, something the alleged victim is disputing.

Rose’s fans have backed the star saying this was a simple extortion from the part of the alleged rape victim.

There are no clear reports of the Knicks’ stand on Rose’s rape case. But with a “win-now” mode thinking for the new NBA season, New York could decide to trade Rose just so they don’t have a major distraction in the team’s campaign to make the playoffs next season.

One trade that has been talked about recently is between the Thunder and Knicks. OKC will send Russell Westbrook to New York in exchange for Kristaps Porizingis and Derrick Rose and his expiring contract.

If found guilty, Rose could be avoided by teams like the Knicks and Thunder, but since he is in the final year of his contract, it could serve as a good trade asset for teams looking to cut salary.

The Thunder are in rebuild mode after Kevin Durant left them in free agency. Westbrook is one of the top players in the league but it’s not clear if he has the ability to make the Thunder one of the West contenders.

There’s a chance that OKC misses the playoffs next season and restarting their franchise with someone like Porzingis could be a good rebuild start for the Thunder.

They can also demand a future first round pick from the Knicks, who will have a starting line-up of Westbrook, Courtney Lee, Carmelo Anthony, Joakim Noah and another player, which is good enough to become one of the top teams in the East.

Trade rumors for now but if the NY Knicks want to get away from the Derrick Rose rape controversy, they need to give up Kristaps Porzingis if they want Russell Westbrook from the OKC Thunder.
