The Sacramento Kings are reportedly eyeing Ricky Rubio in a trade, as the newest NBA rumors after the point guards’ good showing for his national team Spain at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
From a radio show based in Minneapolis, Darren Wolfson of KSTP Radio mentioned the possibility of Rubio joining the Kings next season.
“As (Wolves owner) Glen Taylor said on this podcast a couple episodes ago, Ricky Rubio will start the season with the Wolves. But I can tell you, as I’ve said a number of times, the Sacramento Kings are a team to watch,” Wolfson said.
“Vlade Divac, George Karl, now George Karl into Dave Joerger. Keep an eye on the Sacramento Kings if slash when the Wolves decide to make a move on Ricky. But, again, nothing is imminent. Ricky Rubio will be with the Wolves opening night.”
These are not new NBA rumors as in previous weeks Rubio’s name has popped out as possible trade partner for the Kings in exchange for veteran forward Rudy Gay, who has reportedly demanded a trade or placed in the trading block by Sacramento.
However, after his good showing at the Rio Olympics, Rubio might have upped his trade value and Minnesota could once again explore deals for their starting point guard.
The Timberwolves have lots of point guards in their roster featuring Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine and Tyus Jones so they could be open to trading Rubio.
Sacramento is on rebuilding mode but getting Rubio could be big as he can be the pass first point guard to pair with franchise player DeMarcus Cousins, who is expected to have another dominating season for the Kings.
Minnesota wants to make the playoffs after years of struggling but they need some veterans in the team and more offense to improve their roster.
Could the Timberwolves risk losing Ricky Rubio in favor of Gay and shooter Ben McLemore if they do a trade with the Kings? Will Sacramento give up any of their young guys or future picks to lure Minnesota in a trade?
