Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the 36-year-old guard Jamal Crawford, who is reportedly targeted by seven NBA teams in the upcoming free agency on July 1.
Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Jamal Crawford is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The three-time Sixth Man of Year has played a significant role in the Clippers’ backcourt. Though he said that he prefers to re-sign with the Clippers, Crawford stated that he is not closing his door to other teams.
“I definitely have to keep an open mind and see what’s out there,” Crawford said. “That’s why you’re in this position. My preference, like I’ve said from the get-go, is to go back to the Clippers. But, I’m definitely very, very open-minded about the whole free-agency process.”
According to Dan Woike of The Orange County Register, Jamal Crawford is expected to receive interest from seven NBA teams. These include the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Jamal Crawford, who just turned 36, has proven that age is only a number and not a hindrance for him to excel in the league.
“I’ve been blessed enough where all the rules that come with age don’t apply to me. People were saying I was old at 32. Look at what I’ve done the past four years,” he said. “… I’m so excited about this year. It’ll be one of my best years; I’m sure of it.”
Despite having offers from other teams, the 16-year veteran said that he would only join a team that has a winning tradition. Jamal Crawford is considered one of the league’s best shooters making 546 three-point shots in his four years of tenure with the Clippers.
Jamal Crawford also stated that this summer is the best time to become a free agent since many teams will have a huge salary cap. This may not point directly, but if an NBA team offers a higher salary and a starting role, there is a greater possibility that Crawford may change his mind and play for another team next season.
