The Philadelphia 76ers will have the chance to add another talented player in the upcoming 2017 NBA draft. According to the latest report, the Sixers will choose between Josh Jackson and Jason Tatum for the No. 3 overall pick.
The Sixers are currently in the middle of a rebuilding process. After years tanking, they acquired promising talents who can help the team return to title contention. Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, and Ben Simmons formed one of the promising frontcourts in the league.
With their goal to contend next season, the Sixers should prioritize upgrading their backcourt. The 2017 NBA draft is loaded with the talented guards, including Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball. However, Fultz and Ball are expected to be selected at No. 1 and 2.
Sixers drafting Josh Jackson or Jason Tatum?
As of now, the Sixers continue to work out top draft prospects who deserve to become the third overall pick. In an appearance on WEEI 93.7 FM, ESPN’s Jeff Goodman gives his prediction in the upcoming NBA draft.
“So I still think it’s going to be Fultz at one, Lonzo Ball at two, I think Magic [Johnson] is enamored by Lonzo Ball. And then I think three is a little bit of a tricky choice for Bryan Colangelo and the Sixers, do they go with Josh Jackson, do they go with Jayson Tatum? It’ll be one of those two, I have a feeling,” Goodman said.
Most mock drafts predicted Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball as the No. 1 and 2 picks. However, there are varying predictions regarding the No. 3 pick. Names of De’Aaron Fox and Josh Jackson emerged as the Sixers’ top options if the Celtics and the Lakers didn’t pass on Fultz or Ball.
For Goodman, Jackson and Tatum will be battling for the No. 3 pick. Jackson is considered as this year’s third-best draft prospect. He will undeniably boost the Sixers’ defense. Meanwhile, Tatum is a gifted perimeter scorer who can be the Sixers’ starting shooting guard next season.
Lonzo Ball to Sixers remains a big possibility
The Lakers aren’t yet locked on Lonzo Ball and open for the possibility of drafting other players in the upcoming draft. This gives the Sixers the chance to draft the former UCLA guard. Ball will be a great addition to the Sixers given his incredible passing and leadership skills. If they acquire Ball, Ben Simmons won’t need to slide down to the point guard position next season.
