The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly willing to trade the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft if they receive an enticing offer. According to the latest NBA rumors, the New York Knicks will trade Kristaps Porzingis and the No. 8 pick for Ben Simmons and the No. 3 pick.
In the NBA draft lottery, the Sixers grabbed the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. This will give them the opportunity to add another promising player on their roster. With their loaded frontcourt, the Sixers obviously need to improve their backcourt.
NBA Rumors: Sixers willing to trade the No. 3 pick
The Sixers are currently in a strong position to land a talented guard if either the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers will pass on Lonzo Ball or Markelle Fultz. So far, they have started conducting workouts on top prospects in the upcoming draft. However, Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo is open for the possibility of trading the No. 3 overall pick.
“I think that should we move or if there’s a transaction that comes out that gives us a chance to perhaps increase what impact No. 3 can have in terms of its return, I think we will look at it,” Colangelo said, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “There’s some discussions that have been fairly interesting.”
Several NBA teams will surely be interested in acquiring the Sixers’ pick. However, Colangelo made it clear that they are not motivated in moving the top selection. Their decision will surely be based on who will the Celtics and the Lakers pick at No. 1 and 2.
NBA Rumors: Knicks-Sixers draft night trade possible
If the Sixers will trade the No. 3 pick, the New York Knicks are one of the NBA teams who’s expected to make a deal. The Knicks currently have the No. 8 pick in the upcoming draft. However, they need a higher selection to acquire their draft targets like Josh Jackson and De’Aaron Fox,
CSNPhilly.com created a trade scenario between the Sixers and the Knicks. In the proposed deal, the Sixers send Ben Simmons and the No. 3 pick to New York for Kristaps Porzingis and the No. 8 pick. This trade works on the ESPN Trade Machine.
The deal makes sense for the Knicks since this will strengthen their chance of acquiring their target in the 2017 NBA draft. Simmons will surely be a great fit in the triangle offense, especially with his incredible passing skills. However, it remains questionable if the Sixers will proceed with the deal.
Porzingis is undeniably a future superstar but not the player the Sixers need right now. Philadelphia needs a shooter and a playmaker who can play alongside Simmons, Joel Embiid, and Dario Saric. The Sixers should only trade the No. 3 pick if they will get a backcourt boost in return.
