The San Antonio Spurs are looking to get younger this offseason after their age finally caught up to them in the 2016 NBA playoffs. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Spurs may use their only pick in this year’s draft to select Thon Maker.
By virtue of having the second-best record this season, San Antonio has the 29th overall pick while their second round pick went to the Sacramento Kings because of the Ray McCallum trade. Nonetheless, the Spurs are known for their impressive talent scouting and they will likely find a good player late in the first round.

Jeff McDonald of San Antonio Express News suggested that the Spurs should take a chance on Thon Maker. He is an intriguing prospect but scouts are not a fan of him since he did not have any experience playing the collegiate level.
Maker graduated from Orangeville District Secondary School in Ontario in 2015 but he stayed for post-graduate education thus making him eligible for the NBA draft. He got his notoriety from a hoop mixtape posted online.
The Spurs can easily develop the 19-year-old and make use of his untapped potential. Maker is a 7-foot-1 player with a 36.5 inch vertical leap and he also has a jump shot and great ball handling skills for his size.
As mentioned in a previous report, the best skill he has is his determination, maturity and competitive nature. Many scouts were impressed with them and considered it as his biggest assets.

The last time the Spurs had the 29th pick was in 2011 when they selected Cory Joseph. He went on to become a vital part of the team before signing with the Toronto Raptors last season.
Other teams rumored to have an interest in drafting Maker are the Detroit Pistons, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.
