The NBA rumors surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers and Jahlil Okafor have died down for the past month but it looks like it will come alive again heading to training camp. The Oklahoma City Thunder could be one of the potential destinations for Okafor, who can provide them some low post scoring.
The Thunder have secured Russell Westbrook for the next two years and they can lock him up for the rest of his career if they continue to build around him. General Manager Sam Presti has done a great job adding Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis but he needs to do more.
On the other hand, the Sixers have been looking to trade Okafor, as well as Nerlens Noel, this offseason due to the glut of big men on their roster. Joel Embiid is finally healthy while they also added Ben Simmons and Dario Saric.
According to Isaac Harris of The Smoking Cuban, it makes sense for the Thunder to get Okafor via trade since he can slot into the power forward position alongside Steven Adams. The former third overall pick, who has been linked with many NBA rumors, will pick up the scoring left by Serge Ibaka.
Harris suggested that Oklahoma City can acquire Okafor from the Sixers for Andre Roberson and Cameron Payne. The Sixers will get a young point guard that they need in Payne, as well as a defensive wing like Roberson who can flourish in a larger role.
The value of Okafor is not as high as Philadelphia wants it to be which means they have to settle for the best possible offer. The 20-year-old big man has been rumored to be a target for teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics.
On the other hand, NBA rumors in Oklahoma City suggest that they will go all out on Blake Griffin next summer, per CBS Sports. Griffin is an Oklahoma City native and he is a much better player than Jahlil Okafor. Nevertheless, it will be an interesting road to training camp since there might be more trades to come.
