The 2015 NBA draft third overall pick and Philadelphia 76ers center, Jahlil Okafor, has been part of various trade rumors after his team finished in the 15th spot in the Eastern Conference this season.
After their disappointing season, the Philadelphia 76ers are now undergoing a rebuilding process and this includes a huge adjustment in their roster. In the 2015-16 NBA season, the Sixers have noticed the lack of chemistry between their two big men Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel. With this, the management is considering to trade one of them to acquire another franchise player in the league.
After the trade rumors about Jahlil Okafor spread, several NBA teams expressed their interest to acquire the 20-year-old center. Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo admitted that he has been receiving offers from the other teams to acquire Jahlil Okafor but their offer was not enough for them to make the deal.
Jahlil Okafor said that he heard the trade rumors he is currently involved. The 20-year-old center asked for an advice with coach Brett Brown and said to him that he needed to get used to it.
“Well, of course you hear it,” Okafor said of the trade rumors. “You hear it because of people texting you and asking you and all of that stuff. There were trade rumors involving me throughout the season. Then, at the All-Star break, there were some more trade rumors. So I talked to my head coach, Brett Brown, and he just told me that as long as I’m in the NBA, that’s going to be part of my life. I try to block it out, but being an NBA player, it’s just something you have to deal with.”
Boston Celtics have been reportedly eyeing to acquire Jahlil Okafor by trading their third overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. However, with Colangelo’s statement, it seems like their offer was not enough to make the deal. If the Celtics are really serious in pursuing him, they should think of adding another key player to make the Sixers agree.
