Paul George continues to be part of various trade rumors in the past months. After the Cleveland Cavaliers sweep the Indiana Pacers in the first round, the potential departure of George this summer started to heat up once again. Should the Portland Trail Blazers be interested in trading for the Pacers star?
Before the February trade deadline, the Pacers appeared to be close to trading Paul George and start rebuilding the team. The 26-year-old small forward is eligible to sign a massive contract extension with the Pacers this summer. However, in an interview, George said that he’s not giving Indiana a guarantee that he will sign the extension.
Paul George trade rumors: Larry Bird needs to decide for Pacers’ future
Having a plethora of young assets and draft picks, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics emerged as the top trade destination for the Pacers star. However, Pacers president Larry Bird denied all the rumors and made it clear that they have no plan to trade George. “PG” will become a free agent in 2018 where the Pacers could lose him for nothing.
In the recent playoffs, George is undeniably unhappy with his teammates’ performance. If he will not demand a trade this summer, it’s likely that he’ll join another team once he becomes a free agent. With the Pacers’ failure to make a deep playoff run, they should make a tough decision in the upcoming offseason.
Paul George to Portland Trail Blazers makes sense
The acquisition of Jusuf Nurkic helped the Portland Trail Blazers earn a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Unfortunately, the backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum plus the “Bosnian Beast” were still not enough to take down the Golden State Warriors in the first round. Their recent playoffs performance showed that Portland still needs to improve their roster to become a legitimate title contender.
Recently, on Twitter, C.J. McCollum was asked: “Who would you like to see the Blazers go after this offseason?”. McCollum answered and said that Portland should trade for Paul George this summer. So far, this is just an opinion of the Blazers star but acquiring another superstar makes a lot of sense for Portland.
They currently have the trade assets, including three 2017 first-round picks, to make a deal with the Indiana Pacers. George will undeniably be a great fit with the Trail Blazers playing alongside Lillard, McCollum, and Nurkic. However, if the Pacers make the superstar available, several NBA teams will surely give a seductive offer in order to add George on their team.
