The Phoenix Suns are in the middle of rebuilding that it’s expected that they are searching for deals that will more for the future than improving the team immediately in the upcoming NBA season, according to NBA trade rumors.

The recent injury to starting wingman P.J. Tucker will make them think about tanking next season as well and get good value for the veterans in their team. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers are set to defend their NBA championship but have some offseason distractions to deal with before the NBA season starts.

Iman Shumpert has been mentioned in NBA trade rumors because of his driving under the influence (DUI) controversy and J.R. Smith remains unsigned despite being one of the key players in their title run last season.

According to reports, Tucker’s recent surgery, on a lower back procedure, was successful but he’s expected to be out for the next two months. This can actually be good for the Suns since they are not expected to compete next season but will force the team to explore trades, particularly a deal involving veteran center Tyson Chandler.

A trade between Phoenix and Cleveland is something to explore since a deal can solve a few of their issues. Via ESPN’s Trade Checker, a Tyson Chandler trade to Cleveland for Iman Shumpert and Mo Williams works under the NBA trade rules.

If the Cavaliers are willing to add future first round draft picks, the Suns may consider since they want to give more playing time for their young big men in the roster. Center Alex Len and forward Dragan Bender are the young prospects that needs playing time in Phoenix and dealing Chandler will give both more playing time with the Suns.

Cleveland wants to improve their roster because the other East teams and their NBA Finals rival Golden State Warriors have upgraded their teams. The Cavaliers getting Chandler will give them a big man that can protect the rim and also help their rebounding. Chandler can start at center and the team can move Tristan Thompson to the bench, where he will backup both Chandler and Kevin Love.
