In the latest NBA trade rumors and dramas, J.R. Smith is no doubt the much talked about player in the league. Smith still hasn’t played a single game since the NBA preseason started and why is that? Well, the Cleveland Cavaliers hasn’t signed him yet.

With the 2016-2017 NBA regular season starting to come close, rumors continue to circulate about Smith’s career path.

The Cavs offered Smith a three-year deal with a partial guarantee in the fourth year for a staggering $42 million, as reported by Chatt Sports Net.

“I don’t see it changing anytime soon,” an insider said regarding the matter.

According to Christian Post, NBA trade rumors involving Smith with almost every team in the league will unlikely die down as long as the deal with the Cavs is done. One team which is keeping an eye on the shooting guard is the Los Angeles Lakers. Rumor has it that the organization is interested and is willing to trade Jordan Clarkson in exchange for Smith.

Clarkson played and started a total of 79 games last season. He averaged 15.5 points, 4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals. He also averaged 32.2 minutes per game.
This season, however, Clarkson will be coming off the bench as per Lakers head coach Luke Walton’s decision.
“I don’t look at it as really coming off the bench as much as the way Lamar came off our bench but he was really a starter,” Walton said in a statement.
This decision may not be good for Clarkson since he’s now being projected as the leader of the team. Does this mean that there is a chance for Smith to join the Lakers in exchange to underappreciated Clarkson?
