Days before the 2017 NBA draft, the New York Knicks started entertaining trade offers for Kristaps Porzingis. Despite their high asking price, several NBA teams reportedly expressed interest in adding the Latvian center on their team.
Knicks president Phil Jackson publicly stated that nobody is untouchable on the Knicks’ roster, including Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis has been frequently mentioned in various trade rumors after he skipped the exit meeting with the Knicks. However, his camp made it clear that Porzingis wants to stay and win in New York.
NBA Rumors: Phil Jackson found Kristaps Porzingis’ replacement
Janis Porzingis also warned the teams who will trade for the Knicks star. Unfortunately, this does not stop the rumors from swirling around Porzingis. As of now, it seems like the Knicks will really consider moving him if the right offer comes along. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Jackson is weighing the possibility of trading Kristaps Porzingis this offseason.
With the nearing departure of Carmelo Anthony, most people see Porzingis as the Knicks’ next franchise player. However, Jackson doesn’t think the 21-year-old center is ready to carry a team. The “Zen Master” is also reportedly keeping an eye on Arizona forward Lauri Markkanen, whom he had a dinner meeting on Monday night in New York.
The Knicks are expected to use the No. 8 pick to acquire him in the upcoming draft. Jackson sees Markkanen as the potential replacement for Porzingis. The 7-foot jump-shooting forward has almost the same skill set as the Latvian center.
NBA Rumors: Kristaps Porzingis to Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are one of the NBA teams who’s expected to make a trade offer for Kristaps Porzingis this offseason. The Celtics currently have a plethora of trade assets to make a deal with the Knicks. Recently, they swapped the No. 1 pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for the No. 3 pick and a future first round pick.
Some people believe that the Celtics are preparing to build a championship team this offseason. Porzingis will undeniably be a big help for the Celtics in achieving their goal. He showed massive improvements last season, averaging 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. Jonathan Adams of Heavy.com created a trade idea that would send Porzingis to the Celtics.
In the suggested trade a scenario, the Celtics will trade Jae Crowder, Jaylen Brown, No. 3 pick, and a 2018 first-round pick to the Knicks for Porzingis and Lance Thomas. The trade works on the ESPN Trade Machine. If the trade proceeds, both teams will definitely fill up the needs to improve on their roster.
