Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Minnesota Timberwolves who are reportedly trading guard Kris Dunn for center Jahlil Okafor of the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Philadelphia 76ers are currently undergoing a rebuilding process and this includes a huge adjustment in their roster. The Sixers recently acquired Ben Simmons in the recent NBA draft as the No. 1 overall pick. Also, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid decided to play for the team next season.
The arrival of Saric and Embiid made the spots of Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor questionable. Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo said that he was not comfortable having too many centers in their team. Between the two big men, the Philadelphia 76ers will most likely trade Jahlil Okafor than Nerlens Noel.
Jahlil Okafor has been targeted by several NBA teams, including the Boston Celtics and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Recalling in the draft night, the Celtics and the Sixers were reportedly close to a trade deal involving Jahlil Okafor and the third overall pick. However, it seems like the negotiations did not go well.

If the Sixers got the pick, they will surely get Providence point guard Kris Dunn. However, the Minnesota Timberwolves took Dunn as the 5th overall pick. Jonathan Tjarks of The Ringer believed that the Sixers and the Timberwolves would be a great trade partner.
There are speculations that the Timberwolves is currently looking for a big man who can work together with Karl-Anthony Towns. Towns’ ability to pass and shoot from 20-plus feet would make Okafor nearly unguardable around the rim. Trading either Kris Dunn or Ricky Rubio together with either Tyus Jones, Shabazz Muhammad, Gorgui Dieng, and Adreian Payne will be enough to close the deal.
According to ESPN, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said that the team would not be trading Ricky Rubio. The team is currently working to improve Rubio’s shooting and still testing if Kris Dunn can be fitted into the starting role.
“I think the coach wants to bring an assistant coach to help Ricky on his shooting and I think that’s where we’re going to start out and go and we’ll see how good Kris Dunn is,” Taylor said.
If the Timberwolves is serious in trading for Jahlil Okafor, sacrificing the likes of Kris Dunn or Ricky Rubio should be an option. The Sixers are currently upgrading their backcourt and there is a higher possibility of trading Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel.
