The OKC Thunder had a miserable off-season so far. The team already lost Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka this summer. Russell Westbrook became a part of many NBA trade rumors until he re-signed with the Thunder recently. But there is an understanding within the team that he might still be traded next summer if he is unable to lead them into the playoffs based on this NBA trade rumors report.
According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Thunder will observe first how Westbrook will fare next season in leading the franchise before they think about their next move on the player. OKC are planning early so that they could avoid what happened to them this offseason.
But Kyler added that the Thunder could also trade Westbrook if he is unable to lead the team into the playoffs. This might be made by the organization since they lost Durant last season with a complete team, but fell short in the playoffs.
Moreover, Russell’s new contract is untradeable until the first week of February. Therefore, OKC is really keeping all of their options open until they find what is better for their team.
Westbrook is the lone NBA All-star of the Thunder right now. He is just 27-years-old and might have the greatest chance of winning the MVP based on odds makers, per the Oklahoman report.
Though NBA trade rumors about the player remain a possibility until after next season, there is no denying what Russell could do on the court. He primarily plays as a point guard, but he averaged 23.5 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game, 10.4 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game last season.
