In the NBA draft lottery, the Philadelphia 76ers acquired the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. The latest NBA rumors revealed that Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo received an “interesting offer” for the No. 3 pick.
“I’ve already had one offer come in for the No. 3 pick,” Colangelo said Wednesday afternoon on the Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic. “I found it somewhat interesting, but not enough to jump and make a decision today. We’ve looked at the group of top draft prospects all along, and said; these guys can play alongside Ben Simmons. Especially if he’s playing point guard. Let’s not forget who Ben is. Ben is a ball-handling basketball player. He’s going to thrive with the ball in his hands. He’s going to instinctively come back to the ball after he handles it.”
Should the Philadelphia 76ers trade the No. 3 pick?
With Colangelo’s statement, it seems like they are ready to trade the No. 3 pick if the right deal comes along. The Sixers are expected to focus on upgrading their backcourt this season. Names of Kyle Lowry and J.J. Redick emerged as their top target in the upcoming free agency.
However, there is still a possibility that they will keep the No. 3 pick to select a talented guard. Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball, the top two prospects in the upcoming draft, could go to Philadelphia if the Boston Celtics or the Los Angeles Lakers pass on either of them. However, they should make sure that their new acquisition can work alongside Ben Simmons, who’s expected to be the Sixers starting point guard next season.
If Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo will trade the No. 3 pick, they will surely demand a veteran guard or a superstar. The Sixers currently have a young and promising frontcourt with Simmons, Joel Embiid, and Dario Saric. If they managed to acquire talented guards, it will strengthen their chance of contending for the playoffs next season.
Joel Embiid wants Sixers to draft Jayson Tatum or Josh Jackson at No. 3
More than a month before the 2017 NBA draft, Sixers center Joel Embiid already has two names in mind for the third overall pick. With Fultz and Ball projected to be the top two picks, Embiid expects the Sixers to choose either Jayson Tatum or Josh Jackson at No. 3.
“I think the two guards (Markelle) Fultz and Lonzo Ball are going to be one and two,” Embiid said. “I like Josh Jackson a lot and Jayson Tatum. So I expect one of those guys to be at three with us.”
