NBA’s LeBron James: The king’s politics, urged Justin Bieber to reject RNC $5 million offer

By on

The four-time NBA MVP Lebron James is not just a prolific scorer but has won all-defensive honors yearly from 2009 to 2014. It seems that off the basketball court, King James has been tough for the Republican National Committee (RNC) to work around too.

The RNC normally asks exclusive access to the hall weeks prior to a convention for the preparations, but they didn’t get that request months ago for this July convention because the Cleveland Cavaliers were going to the finals for the first time.

After the Cavaliers won the NBA championship title, the huge champions banner portraying LeBron James was initially planned to be removed to make way for a patriotic sign “land is our land” of the RNC. But that plan too did not materialize.

That isn’t to say LeBron James is not patriotic. On the contrary, to the RNC’s dismay, James is a proud democrat.

He is a supporter of president Barack Obama, and back in 2008, he made a $20,000 donation to a committee that supported Obama’s presidency bid.

He was ranked by Forbes as one of the most influential and popular athletes in America, a title fit for the “King” and LeBron James wants to use his status in society to effect change.

He supports the Black Lives Matter movement and has worn a shirt with a political message, a hoodie in remembrance of shooting victim Trayvon Martin. In 2008, he gathered around 20,000 people to watch Obama’s 30-minute TV advertisement.

LeBron James certainly is not new to controversy. Recently Justin Bieber was reported to have turned down a $5 million offer to perform for 45 minutes for the RNC after James was rumored to have urged him to.

Slam Online reports that Justin Bieber seriously considered the offer, especially being Canadian, and not having to do it with political motives.

According to Hollywood Life, the RNC promoter even told Justin Bieber that LeBron would be there to for the RNC event, which turned out to be untrue.

Sources say James played a key role in Justin Bieber’s decision to reject the offer in spite of the millions involved.

Apart from James urging him to turn down the offer, Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, and his band was against performing for the RNC too, and Braun threatens to quit his job.

LeBron James is said to be proud of Justin Bieber for taking a stand.
