Journalists ought to report events when they occur, as it happens, for the public to know. But the Sacramento Kings ‘ big man DeMarcus Cousins seems to have a problem with that.
At least in one article written by Bee columnist Andy Furillo, that involves him along with his brother, an NBA minor leaguer, Jaleel Cousins.
NBA fans may point out that this is nothing new when it comes to the King ‘s DeMarcus Cousins. The guy has had multiple records of infractions with coaches Paul Westphal and George Karl, teammates, opposing players, and the media in the past.
But this latest “bullying” of Andy Burillo may be the last straw to Cousins’ long list of controversies.
DeMarcus Cousins attempt to control the media
Instead of attempting to clear up any involvement, or grabbing the chance to explain his side of the story, DeMarcus Cousins approached reporter Andy Furillo for writing about the legal issues he got himself involved in after an altercation in a bar in New York.
“Don’t ever mention my brother again. You don’t know my f—— brother,” Cousins shouted according to a report by Sacramento Bee. “Say whatever you want about me, but don’t mention my m———— family.”
But Andy Furillo only wrote what he had gathered on the story; that Matt Barnes choked a woman, and DeMarcus Cousins punched her boyfriend who was trying to help. He even mentioned that what really happened is still vague and under investigation.
DeMarcus Cousins would have none of that. Shirtless, towering over Andy Furillo, he shouted, “F*cking coward. You say whatever the fuck you want to say about me, but don’t mention my motherfucking family,” according to a report by Mashable.
Team’s reception of DeMarcus Cousins ‘ attitude
Cousins is one of the best players in the NBA. He’s a two-way talent with size and speed. Perhaps it is best that the league is able to show that they are in control over their athletes, so as not to tarnish its reputation and inclination toward basic values and professionalism.
“We are committed to being open and transparent, and any hint of media censorship is unacceptable. There is an ongoing review into this matter, and we will take the appropriate steps immediately upon its conclusion.” The Kings management issued a statement, as reported by the Wrap.
