Scott Brooks will be landing at the Washington Wizards. The veteran coach has struck a five-year, $ 35 million deal with the Washington Wizards. Brooks was also pursued by the Houston Rockets. Brooks is perceived as a Kevin Durant bait. Now the question is, would he be able to persuade Durant to land in Washington?
Randy Wittman was Wizards’ head coach during this regular season. Brooks was fired by Kevin Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder last offseason.
The Wizards are planning to pursue Kevin Durant in 2016 free agency, and acquiring Scott would help them to land the OKC All-star in Washington.
Will Brooks be able to lure Kevin Durant in free agency? Durant and Russell Westbrook evolved to MVP caliber player under Brooks.
But according to Yahoo Sports, Durant isn’t keen on returning to Washington, the city in which he grew up. The OKC All-star wants to win an NBA championship, and the Wizards are not yet perceived as a title contender for next season. His lone trip to Washington DC this season was stressful, as the league sources told the Vertical.
But that doesn’t mean the Wizards have made a mistake by signing Brooks. He has made two trips to the Conference finals, and once reached the NBA finals. Brooks won 62 % of games as Thunder head coach. The Wizards have a roster full of potential but requires Brooks directives. All-star John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter- there is no dearth of talent in Washington’s roster. The Wizards side didn’t live up to expectations after being rated as one of the top five teams at the start of the season.
Brooks’ challenge is to mold the side to one of the title contenders.
