As the 2016 NFL Draft nears, it’s expected that there are more NFL trade rumors each day. One of the recent NFL rumors circulates around New York Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson. If the rumors are to be believed, then the NY Jets DE will be traded to the Chicago Bears this 2016 offseason.
With speculations revolving around Wilkerson with each passing day, fans wonder as to which team will finally land the 26-year-old. However, trade opportunities will be tough for the man from Linden, New Jersey considering his hefty contract which requests $50 million along with further compensation for the Jets. The Jets are looking for a first round pick in NFL draft 2016 and will have to shell out around $15 million if Wilkerson is not traded, as reported by ESPN.
“This is one of the five best defensive linemen in football, by any measure. The injury is the only argument any team could make that Wilkerson is not worth, say, picks in the first and third or fourth round” Peter King of Sports Illustrated said.
Although there hasn’t been any official news from team or the player himself, many reports are claiming that Chicago Bears are most likely to accept the trade for Wilkerson.
Wilkerson has made 64 combined tackles in the 2015 season which includes 25 assisted tackles and 12.0 sacks.
Acquiring Wilkerson would provide an immediate upgrade to the defensive options the Bears possess at the moment. However the Bears would look to negotiate a long term contract before finalizing any trade.
