Seattle Seahawks vs. Atlanta Falcons Preview – The Seattle Seahawks were not tested in the wild card round with an easy win over the Detroit Lions last week. On Saturday, they will face a quality playoff team when they take on the Atlanta Falcons, the NFC South champions.
The Falcons will try to avenge their regular season loss to the Seahawks. Seattle beat Atlanta, 26-24 in Week 6 on October 6 but that was a controversial game that could have gone either way. Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman wasn’t called for an apparent interference call in the fourth and the Seahawks got the home victory.
Chance for Falcons to prove regular season loss vs. Seahawks was a fluke
“We felt like we had a chance to win that game. Calls didn’t go our way. Things could’ve went a different route, so we’re looking forward to this opportunity,” Atlanta’s top linebacker Vic Beasley Jr stated to ESPN.
The Falcons are one of the best offensive teams in the league. Atlanta led the league in scoring in the regular season with an average of 33.8 points per game. They are third in passing yards per game (295.3 yards) and fifth in rushing yards per game (120.5 yards).
Meanwhile, Seattle remains one of the top defensive teams in the league. The Seahawks hold opponents to 18.3 points per game or third in the league. They are eighth in the league in defense of the pass (225.8 opponents’ passing yards per game) and seventh in defense of the rush (92.9 opponents’ rushing yards per game).
The Seahawks showed what their defense is worth this postseason by dominating the Lions, 26-6 in the wild card round. Seattle held the Lions scoreless in the first and fourth quarters and allowed just a couple of field goals.
The Falcons had won their last four games in the regular season. They averaged 38.5 points per game in those victories. Coming off the first round bye, Atlanta’s offense is expected to be at their prime in the match-up against the Seahawks.
