NFL News: Robert Griffin linked to Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys

Robert Griffin rumors of trade throughout the previous NFL seasons have been rife but the Washington Redskins only found chance to let go of the promising quarterback earlier this week after releasing him from the team. Which NFL team could be the next destination for “RG3”?

The Redskins and Griffin were a bad fit and Washington gave up a lot for him just to move up in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Redskins traded two first round picks and a second round pick just to swap a first round pick in that draft with the St. Louis Rams.

“I don’t think anybody in the history of the league has played at his level. At least over the last 40 years, when I take a look at the numbers and what he has done, I don’t think anybody has played at his level,” Mike Shanahan, Redskins head coach, said during the time of Griffin’s struggles during the season.

“As we’ve talked about before, he’s got a unique skill set — his ability to throw, drop back, play action, put a threat on a defense with his running ability — and he will just get better and better. He’s just scratching the surface. And the reason I say that is because he works at it.”

According to Connor Orr of, four NFL teams are on the top of the list as Griffin’s next landing spot, the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.

However, both the Eagles and Chiefs already have starting QBs in their teams with Sam Bradford and Alex Smith, respectively. The 49ers have Colin Kaepernick, who is rumored to be wanting out of San Francisco. The Cowboys have Tony Romo but Dallas owner Jerry Jones reportedly wants to upgrade their quarterback position.

Other teams mentioned in the report were the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, both of whom are looking for a start quarterback to lead their teams’ offense.

Griffin had an underwhelming three years in Washington after being the second overall pick in the 2012 draft. He played in just nine games in the 2015 season finishing with 1,694 passing yards on 147 of 214 completions with 4 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
