Odell Beckham Jr. is at the center of attention for the wrong reasons. The New York Giants’ playoff run ended quickly at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. OBJ’s trip to Miami with other wide receivers and the hole at the Lambeau Field wall became very controversial.
Giants GM Jerry Reese tells Odell Beckham Jr. to ‘grow up’
Reese called out his team’s best player and told him to ‘grow up.’ The Giants GM believes Beckham has the ability and potential to become one of the best players ever. However, Reese wants him to become more mature since he is the face of the franchise.
“He’s a smart guy, but sometimes he doesn’t do smart things. We all had to grow up at different times in our lives. I think it’s time for him to do it now. He’s been here three years now,” Reese told Newsday.
Steve Smith gives OBJ and Giants veterans some advice
Recently retired veteran WR Steve Smith gave some advice to Odell Beckham Jr. and his veteran teammates in an appearance on Undisputed on Tuesday. He called out Victor Cruz for being OBJ in the trip to Miami.
“He shouldn’t be in there. The old veteran, the savvy old dog, should be saying, ‘Bruh, this ain’t what we need to do. We about to go BALL this weekend!’” Smith said.
Smith also thinks OBJ has to think about the team rather than his own personal brand. He added that Beckham should prioritize more important things like his job on the field over the extracurricular activities.
Another NFL legend gives some advice
The latest NFL legend to give advice on Odell Beckham Jr. is Hall of Famer Jerry Rice. He told Undisputed on Wednesday that veterans should be a better influence while Odell has to mature sooner rather than later.
“Real friends tell you ‘Don’t come to Miami, not if you’re playing Aaron Rodgers. We’ll see you in four weeks.’ Real friends will tell you straight up. ‘Bro, you cannot come do what we’re doing right now,’” Lewis said.
“When I think about what I would tell Odell is, I don’t know if Odell really understands sooner or later your talent won’t get you into stadiums. Sooner or later you’ve got to be on this side of the road,” he added.
