Colin Kaepernick made headlines recently when he refused to stand for the United States national anthem. According to the latest NFL rumors, the protest by Kaepernick made a lot of team executives around the NFL unhappy and it could leave him without a job in the league.
The 28-year-old quarterback is doing the protest because of the racial injustice in the U.S. including the recent police brutality. The issue has divided players and fans but it was a different story for a lot of front offices and team executives in the NFL.
According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, Kaepernick’s on-going protest has angered many team executives. He noted that a survey was conducted on several teams and 90-95 percent are saying “Kap” will be out of a job if the San Francisco 49ers release him.
“I don’t want him anywhere near my team. He’s a traitor,” one front office executive told Freeman.
“He has no respect for our country. F*** that guy,” another team executive said.
“In my career, I have never seen a guy so hated by front office guys as Kaepernick,” one NFL general manager added.
Colin Kaepernick will be the backup quarterback heading into the season behind starter Blaine Gabbert. Despite the protest, the Nevada product has been linked with many NFL rumors and teams that need a backup quarterback like the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings.
Previous NFL rumors indicated that the 49ers could part ways with Colin Kaepernick not because of his protest but for football reasons. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports noted that “Kap” is just regressing as a player due to injuries and inconsistencies.
“I’d be shocked if he’s on the 49ers by the time this season ends. It has nothing to do with political views whatsoever. He lost a ton of weight this offseason, had three surgeries, couldn’t work out, lost that double threat, that size-speed ratio,” Glazer said.
