Colin Kaepernick is expected to make the final cut for the San Francisco 49ers, but a trade is still in consideration, basing on the latest NFL rumors. The veteran quarterback remains linked to the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos, but there is no deal in place thus far.
San Francisco was speculated to be considering releasing Kaepernick as he lost the starting QB job to Blaine Gabbert and also the backup role to Christian Ponder, according to reports.
Kaepernick has played well this preseason to make a case of returning to the starting QB role but the team has not yet announced whom their number one quarterback is for the upcoming NFL season, which begins next week.
However, the 49ers can’t save money because Kaepernick’s deal is guaranteed $11.9 million this season and the team can use him as a trade bait.
Kaepernick’s name has been mentioned in NFL rumors involving the Dallas Cowboys, which lost Tony Romo to a back injury.
Kaepernick to the Denver Broncos is still a possibility with the teams talking about a trade in previous months. The Broncos still need an upgrade at quarterback and are unhappy with their off-season acquisition Mark Sanchez, who is also in danger of getting released or traded.
Kaepernick is just 28 years old and can still be a starting QB in the league. However, recent controversies when he did not stand up during the US National Anthem have reportedly turned off teams in acquiring him.
