Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has been the talk of the preseason for the Dallas Cowboys because of the performances he had in their first two preseason games. According to one former NFL general manager, the Cowboys might have the next Russell Wilson on their hands.
Charley Casserly, who currently works with NFL.com, is the former GM of the Washington Redskins. He told the Dallas Morning News that he is very impressed with Prescott. He also thinks that the Cowboys might be thinking they have the next Russell Wilson.
“If you’re the Cowboys you gotta think, ‘Do we have a Russell Wilson here?’ I know that’s a reach, but this guy has been impressive so far. He certainly keeping you off the telephones,” Casserly said.
The Cowboys have been linked many veteran quarterbacks this offseason due to the injury to backup Kellan Moore. They need a good backup QB just in case Tony Romo breaks down again in the middle of the season.
Dak Prescott has been very impressive in his first two preseason games against the Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins. He is 22-of-27 for 338 yards with six touchdowns and zero interceptions for the first two games while also posting a perfect 158.3 passing rating against the Marlins.
On the other hand, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports told The Dan Patrick Show (h/t Dallas Morning News) also thinks that Dak Prescott can be compared to Russell Wilson. He also noted that the Mississippi State product has some qualities of Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.
“This kid’s an athlete. He’s got some Russell Wilson in him. He’s got a little Aaron Rodgers in him. Maybe he turns out to be just a guy. But there is a lot of clay to mold there,” La Canfora said.
Dak Prescott will be in action again on Thursday, August 25 as the Cowboys visit Russell Wilson and Seattle Seahawks. It will be the penultimate game for Dallas before they open the regular season against the New York Giants on September 11.
