The Dallas Cowboys have a backup quarterback problem with the 2016-17 NFL season only a month away. According to the latest NFL rumors, veteran QB Michael Vick could potentially become the Cowboys’ backup playmaker.

Dallas was already set for Kellen Moore to become the team’s backup to starter Tony Romo but he suffered an injury which could keep him out for the rest of the season, per CBS Sports. Moore broke his right ankle last week during practice when a teammate accidentally rolled on it.

The Cowboys were reportedly looking at Nick Foles but he decided to join his former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid and sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. It has left Jerry Jones’ team with rookie Dak Prescott but he needs more time to develop.

NFL rumors in Dallas point out to four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Michael Vick. In an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the 36-year-old expressed his desire to return to the NFL and play the backup QB role for the Cowboys.

“Every kid growing up wants to put that star on their helmet. You see them on Thanksgiving, on Monday night games year in and year out. It has become an annual thing. It’s a beautiful uniform and it looks good,” Vick said, as transcribed by

However, the former Falcons, Eagles, Jets and Steelers QB pointed out that the Cowboys have not contacted him. Nevertheless, it is possible that he is one of the options for a Dallas team that badly needs a backup quarterback considering Tony Romo’s injury-riddled campaign last season.

Some of the quarterbacks that have been linked with the Cowboys this offseason include Johnny Manziel, Mike Glennon, Josh McCown, Aaron Murray, and even Hall of Famer Brett Favre. It should be noted that these are just NFL rumors at the moment, but one thing is for sure: the Cowboys need a backup QB.
