Less than a week before the 2017 NFL Draft, Jimmy Garoppolo trade rumors started to circulate once again. According to the latest NFL rumors, the New England Patriots are willing to send Garoppolo to the Cleveland Browns for the No. 12 pick in the upcoming draft and a future second-round pick.
Since the offseason started, the Browns keep their interest on Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Cleveland currently has a plethora of trade assets that could convince the Patriots to make a deal. However, nothing has materialized until now.
Time for the Patriots to consider a Jimmy Garoppolo trade
The Patriots see Garoppolo as an insurance whenever something happens to Tom Brady in 2017. However, New England may not be the perfect place for the 25-year-old quarterback since he aims to become a superstar in the league. According to Pete Frisco of CBS Sports, there is no reason for the Patriots to keep Garoppolo if Brady plans to play for three to four more years.
Frisco revealed that the Patriots have lowered their asking price for their backup QB and believe that the Browns would be an ideal trade partner. The Patriots are reportedly willing to make a Jimmy Garoppolo trade happen if the Browns will give up the No. 12 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and a second-round pick in 2018.
Jimmy Garoppolo trade may affect Browns’ decision in 2017 NFL Draft
The potential trade between the Browns and the Patriots involving QB Jimmy Garoppolo may affect Cleveland’s decision in the upcoming NFL draft. In the past months, there are speculations that the Browns aren’t yet decided whether they will use the No. 1 pick to draft defensive lineman Myles Garrett or a franchise quarterback which could possibly be Mitchell Trubisky.
If the Jimmy Garoppolo trade to Cleveland becomes a reality, the Browns will surely select Garrett as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. Cleveland’s executive VP of football operations Sashi Brown recently had a meeting with Garrett and praised the college star.
“Bright young man. Competitive. We spent a lot of time with him, number one, so learned a lot about what makes him tick, what motivates him, how he spends his downtime, how he spends his time with his teammates. You can learn a lot,” Brown said. “He’s an enjoyable young man, very bright. I think whatever team gets him, particularly for us, we’d be proud to have him.”
As of now, it remains unknown if the Browns will be going to make a deal with the Patriots. However, if the trade proceeds, it will definitely help the Browns in filling up the needs to improve on their team.
