The Cleveland Browns remain hopeful to land New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason. The latest report revealed that the Patriots will trade Garoppolo if the Browns are willing to sacrifice the 12th overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft and the 2018 first-round pick.
Jimmy Garoppolo remains a hot commodity on the trade market despite reports claiming the Patriots were not interested in moving him this offseason. Some people believed that it is only the Patriots’ way of driving up the asking price for the 25-year-old quarterback. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network believed that New England would ask for two first-round picks in order to trade Garoppolo.
Jimmy Garoppolo to Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are not reportedly interested in selecting a quarterback in the upcoming 2017 NFL draft. The Browns don’t see it practical for them to wait for a QB to develop if they can get one on the trade market. As of now, the Browns has emerged as the top team who could acquire Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots.
May Kay Cabot of Cleveland Plain Dealer revealed that the Browns see Garappolo as part of their dream scenario. Cleveland wants to walk out with Garoppolo and Myles Garrett on April 29.
In order to make it happen, Cabot reported that the Browns are willing to send the No. 12 overall pick of this year’s draft to New England. However, the Patriots could ask for more in return and demand the 2018 first-round pick.
“Despite a report by ESPN that the Patriots won’t trade Jimmy Garoppolo, I’m told that nothing has changed and that teams — including the Browns — will still try to land him. One source told me he believes it might take as much as a No. 1 this year and No. 1 next year — which I’m sure the Browns won’t be willing to do. But if New England will accept their No. 12 overall pick and maybe another later selection, I think the Browns would strongly consider that,” Cabot reported.
New England Patriots’ asking price too much for the Cleveland Browns
Acquiring Garoppolo would undeniably make the Browns a better team. They would be having their franchise quarterback together with their franchise player on defense. However, they should think twice before giving up valuable assets.
As Cabot notes, the Browns may consider offering the 12th overall pick and a later selection. If the Patriots would insist with their demand, it will be best for the Browns to pass on the deal. The Patriots currently have an increase pressure to move Garoppolo since they can lose him for nothing in 2018. However, there are speculations that New England could use the franchise tag on him and deal him next year.
