The Cleveland Browns need a great offseason to start rebuilding their team. The latest NFL rumors state that the Browns have “real interest” in acquiring Jimmy Garoppolo, the backup quarterback for the New England Patriots.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com states that the Browns will make a pitch for Garoppolo this offseason. Citing unnamed sources, Cabot said that the Browns’ “interest in Garoppolo is real” with the team attempting to trade for the Patriots backup QB.
“But the Browns are intrigued, sources say, and they’ll strongly consider it. The cost could be the No. 12 overall pick and more,” Cabot stated. “The Browns have the first overall pick in the draft and could still decide to take a quarterback. Cleveland also has the No. 12 pick, which they acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, to use in a trade or on a quarterback.”

The move to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo would depend on the Browns’ decision in the draft. If they get a quarterback, Cleveland is not likely to attempt a trade for the QB.
The Browns reportedly have competition for Garoppolo as well. According to separate NFL rumors, the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears and others are also interested in the Patriots QB.
The Browns have lots of options this offseason in trying to get a starting quarterback. They still have Robert Griffin III under contract for next season. RG3 can still get back to form and win the starting QB job.
Cleveland will also pick with the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. There are many quality QB prospects in this draft including Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky.
Jimmy Garoppolo is the backup to Tom Brady for the Patriots, who will go up against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI on February 5. “It will be interesting. Right now, just focused on this week. It’s a crazy week, hectic with all this stuff. We’ll see what happens,” Garoppolo stated to the Chicago Tribune about the possible moves in the offseason.
