The New England Patriots won over the Arizona Cardinals, 23-21 on Sunday and were led by the “poised” play of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who came in as replacement for the suspended star QB Tom Brady.
Garoppolo’s performance has impressed some fans and analysts and lead to the question and speculations that the Patriots should trade Brady so they can start their rebuilding in New England.
Garoppolo had 264 passing yards on 24 of 33 completions with one touchdown and no interception. He is being groomed as the next starting QB in New England but with his performance Sunday night it could lead the team to consider trading Brady if they want to prioritize their future.
Including Sunday night’s game against the Cardinals, the 24-year-old Garoppolo has just played in 12 games in his NFL career, all for the Patriots and as a backup to superstar Brady.
“When you have confidence in your teammates and they have confidence in you, it’s easy to stay poised,” Garoppolo stated to ESPN after getting his first NFL win as a starter.

Patriots head coach Bill Bilichick was also impressed with Garoppolo’s performance.
“He made some good plays. It is not perfect but he made a lot of good plays,” Bilichick added.
Showing poise in his first regular season start, Garoppolo will once again lead the Patriots in the next three games as Brady continues to serve his suspension because of “Deflategate”.
Brady remains one of the elite QBs in the league. When he returns, Garoppolo will again go back to a backup role for the Patriots. However, with performances like Sunday night against the Cardinals, Garoppolo is making his case as a true starting QB in the league and that could lead to more NFL rumors that the Patriots might consider trading Tom Brady soon.
For the moment, the Patriots will be glad with having two starting-quality QBs in their roster and likely won’t make a trade as they are still one of the top contenders for the Super Bowl this season.
