David Cobb, who was released by the Tennessee Titans earlier in the week, could land with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to NFL rumors Monday.
The free agent running back is set to participate in a workout to audition in Pittsburgh, after trying out for the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets.
Just 23 years old, the Titans waived the running back six days ago. It was a somewhat surprising cut as he is just in his second year in the league but his injury problems and disappointing rookie season caused his removal from the Titans’ roster.
In his first year in the NFL, he finished with 146 rushing yards on 52 carries and appeared in just seven games for the Titans. Cobb was a fifth round pick by the team in the 2015 NFL Draft.
The Pittsburgh Steelers want to add to their running crew with Le’Veon Bell out for the first three games of the regular season. In those games, Pittsburgh face the Washington Redskins, Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles.
If signed by the Pittsburg Steelers, this could be Cobb’s chance to establish a regular backup RB slot for the team and prove he can stay in the NFL. Other RBs in the team are DeAngelo Williams, Fitzgerald Toussaint and Daryl Richardson.

Other NFL rumors had Cobb signing with either the Patriots and Jets but no new updates on possible contracts for both sides have been reported.
