The Los Angeles Rams will kick off the 2016-17 NFL season against the San Francisco 49ers but first overall pick Jared Goff might not be the starting quarterback. According to the latest NFL rumors, Case Keenum will likely be named as the starter heading into the season.
Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network reported on Tuesday that the Rams are still favoring Keenum as the starter for Week 1 against the 49ers. The 28-year-old QB finished last season on a strong note with a 3-1 record.
However, Rappaport noted that Jared Goff still has time to change the mind of Rams head coach Jeff Fisher during the preseason. The 21-year-old took snaps for the first time on Tuesday during practice at training camp.
It’s a battle between Jared Goff and Case Keenum, who hasn’t lost it. He ended ’15 at 3-1. Caveat: Goff can changed minds in preseason games

Fisher told the Los Angeles Times that Goff will get some reps with as a starter but he wants the first overall pick to be patient. The California product had a miscommunication on a pass to start his first live practice with the team but he came back quickly and did not commit any more errors.
“We’re going to start him when he’s ready to play. It’s all about the process. It’s about being patient,” Fisher said.
The Rams gave up a lot to acquire the first overall pick but as mentioned by coach Fisher, they will not rush anything. Also, Case Keenum proved last season that the team can count him after being named as the incumbent quarterback in January.
According to Bleacher Report, Goff will become the first number one overall pick not to be named a starter for Week 1 since JaMarcus Russell of the Oakland Raiders in 2007. Rams fans are certainly hoping that Goff will not turn to a bust like Russell.
